Does the Kyoto Protocol as an International Environmental Policy Promote Forest Carbon Sinks?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Under the background of carbon neutrality, sequestration forest ecosystems is an important way to mitigate climate change. Forest could not only protect environment but also industry for economic development. As international policy that first recognized role sinks on change, question becomes, has Kyoto Protocol promoted development in contracting parties? To explore this, data can be obtained at national level. Hence, economic, social, polity and 147 countries collected. The generalized synthetic control method adopted. results show effect was obvious significant. Moreover, more significant after enforcement 2005. Especially commitment period, second period obvious. Some implications are drawn.

Ocean carbon sinks and international climate policy
Terrestrial vegetation sinks have entered the Kyoto Protocol as offsets for anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, but ocean sinks have escaped attention. Ocean sinks are as unexplored and uncertain as were the terrestrial sinks at the time of negotiation of the Kyoto Protocol. It is not unlikely that certain countries will advocate the inclusion of ocean carbon sinks to reduce their emission ...
متن کاملCarbon Sinks in the Post - Kyoto World :
The Protocol specifically mentions emissions from sources and removals by sinks resulting from direct human-induced land-use change and forest related activities – deforestation, reforestation and afforestation – undertaken since 1990. However, the Protocol is silent on the role of other sinks in meeting national emission inventories. Agricultural land, for example, is mentioned as a possible c...
متن کاملInternational Forest Carbon Sequestration in a Post-Kyoto Agreement
Given the size of the global carbon pool in forest vegetation, the potential climatic effects of natural and anthropogenic changes in forests are enormous. Therefore, forest carbon management must be an important element of any international agreement on climate change. In this regard, the Kyoto Protocol has proven ineffective, in part, due to its emphasis on project-based evaluation and the ab...
متن کاملForest Carbon Sinks in the Northern Hemisphere
There is general agreement that terrestrial systems in the Northern Hemisphere provide a significant sink for atmospheric CO2; however, estimates of the magnitude and distribution of this sink vary greatly. National forest inventories provide strong, measurement-based constraints on the magnitude of net forest carbon uptake. We brought together forest sector C budgets for Canada, the United Sta...
